Clearfield He led his team all the way to the PIAA Class AAAA championship game last season, but Coatesville High's DaQuan Worley may have as much to gain as any Nittany Lion recruit this upcoming season. Considered a threestar prospect, the 5foot-10, 175-pound defensive back missed the Rivals/Under Ar- WORLEY mour combine in June. That camp, which took place in Piscataway, N.J., could have been his coming out party, but he was unable to attend because he was competing at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Consequently, scouts are continuing to watch Worley, whom they still view as a sleeper. "I still have a few schools looking at me, " he said. "Syracuse has offered, other schools have talked to my coach, but that all stays with him. I'm done with recruiting. "I'm excited to watch Penn State this year." It isn't a surprise that schools are still recruiting Worley. He committed to Penn State shortly after the recruiting process began to heat up, so the other schools that were interested in him didn't have much of an opportunity to make their case. He could end up being the most surprising player in a class that will be remembered for such high-profile prospects as quarterback Michael O'Connor and wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins. "I talked to Coach [Bill] O'Brien about two or three weeks ago, Worley said. "It's " fun talking to him. I know he's no fluke, he's a great coach. And then, when I'm not talking with him, I'm in touch with Coach [Ron] Vanderlinden mainly. Both are great coaches. I like everything they've been telling me. " Worley isn't the only Class of 2014 prospect who appears poised to have a big senior season. Wide receiver Chris Godwin of Middletown, Del., has the opportunity to not only assert himself as the most sought-after prospect in Penn State's recruiting class, but also the No. 1 receiver in the entire Mid-Atlantic region. Only two wideouts – Curtis Samuel of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jamil Kamara of Virginia Beach, Va. – rank ahead of Godwin heading into the season. "Godwin was excellent at a camp in Philadelphia and then again at the IMG seven-on-seven in Florida," said Adam Friedman, Mid-Atlantic recruiting analyst for Rivals. "He was explosive, much more of a playmaker at those two camps compared to what he did at the Rivals camp. Those two camps had a lot to do with his bump. " The bump in question occurred when the most recent Rivals250 rankings were unveiled, featuring Godwin at No. 150 overall and No. 22 among wide receivers. He had previously been unranked and was outside the top 40 at the receiver position. Like Worley, Godwin is coming off a state championship run. Middletown shut out Salesianum (led by future Nittany Lion linebacker Troy Reeder) last December to claim Delaware's Division I championship. If they are able to extend their seasons this fall, those extra playoff games will provide Worley and Godwin with great exposure and give them a chance to move up in the national rankings. These are the two prospects whom Penn State football fans need to track this fall. Both are still underrated in my book.
