Under the Dome Top of The Class Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Toni Alugbue — Jr., Volleyball The former All-Big East pick is predicted to add some ACC accolades to her trophy case in the next two years. Alugbue and classmate Jeni Houser were both listed as preseason All-ACC selections for Notre Dame's inaugural season in the conference. Alugbue led the Irish with 390 kills last year. She also finished second on the team in defensive digs (272) and third on the team in serving with 17 aces. Max Lachowecki — Jr., Men's Soccer The converted defender begins his junior season at Notre Dame as one of the cogs of the team's back end. Lachowecki was an All-American scorer in high school. He moved to the left back spot at the college level, but hasn't lost his touch. He scored in a 2-0 exhibition win over Drake in late August. He's also part of a defensive corps that allowed only one goal through its first three games of the year. Talia Campbell — So., Women's Golf Last season's Big East champion, sophomore Talia Campbell, narrowly missed the cut for match play in this summer's U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. Campbell tied for 66th place after shooting par in the tournament's second round in early August. She was one stroke from qualifying for match play. Campbell, part of the country's top recruiting class a year ago, finished her freshman year with the fourth-best stroke average (74.7) in Notre Dame history. Cortney Fortunato — Fr., Women's Lacrosse The three-time high school All-American joins Notre Dame's program this fall after winning MVP honors at the Under Armour Senior All-America game this summer. Fortunato scored 388 goals during her prep career in Northport, N.Y. As part of the fifth-ranked class, she is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the nation by Inside Lacrosse and is the second No. 1 national prospect to join the Irish in program history (Shaylyn Blaney, 2007).
