Junior defensive end Stephon Tuitt added to his already intimidating
look this season with a new facemask that had the folks at Riddell working overtime. Tuitt and several of his fellow defenders up front, including
seniors Louis Nix III and Prince Shembo, have jumped on the recent trend
of adding extra bars to the facemask on football helmets. Notre Dame
alumnus Justin Tuck, now with the New York Giants, was one of the first
players to make his grill a fashion statement. Some companies have gone
so far as to try to create designs of school logos out of the bars on the
bottom half of a facemask, but those were outlawed for gamedays by
the NFL this summer.
