so I felt behooved to reach out to them. "We talk about the Notre Dame family, but a lot of times we don't find out those things until you go through something hard or trying times. Most of the Notre Dame community doesn't know me personally, but this place is special. "You think you know, you think you understand the family atmosphere and how much people care, but it's not until you truly go through something that you find out. I'm grateful for that and for the support of the Notre Dame community." Although Alford is thinking about his brother, he said the start of another college football season is a relief. "I'm excited about the season," he said. "I love my brother, but that doesn't mean I don't want to play and win and compete. Hell, that's what we do. "This place is special. That's why I can say … this place is different. This place is special, unlike any other I've been at. Everybody can say that about their respective schools. and God bless them and that's great, but from my perspective at the University of Notre Dame, my family is grateful for the support." Tony's focus moving forward will be on coaching and supporting his children and Aaron's three sons in Utah who lost a father. "It puts a lot of things in perspective about what's important," Alford said. "If you care about people, let it be known. "Don't let a day go by that you don't let people know you care about them. Honor and cherish their being a part of your life." ✦
