Maybe all those doomsday predictions from the summer of 2012 will turn out to be prophetic and Penn State will become, essentially, a midmajor team, and not even a particuS e P t e m b e R larly good one. Maybe the worst-case scenarios will come to pass. Or maybe not. If their home opener against Eastern Michigan was any indication, the Nittany Lions are a long, long way from fulfilling all the dire predictions of those who thought the NCAA had levied a de facto death penalty last summer. Shrugging off injuries, inexperience at key positions, and an early 7-0 deficit, Penn State thrashed the Eagles, 7 , 2 0 1 3 1 b l u e w h i t e o n l i n e . c o m puts an emphasis on starting each game fast. The Nittany Lions' first 13 minutes of action were anything but, as the Eagles sprinted out to an early and surprising 7-0 lead. THE TAKEAWAY The Nittany Lions improved as the game wore on – both on offense and defense. They totaled 193 rushing yards in the second half, while the defense doubled down and continued to keep the Eagles' offense off the scoreboard.
