JUDGMENT CALLS The best and the rest from the Lions' win vs. Eastern Michigan PLAYER OF THE GAME Christian Hackenberg set the record for total passing yards by a freshman quarterback, completing 23 of 33 passes for 311 yards and a touchdown. PLAY OF THE GAME With the Lions treading water late in the third quarter, tailback Zach Zwinak's 7-yard touchdown gave them a 24-7 lead and put an end to any chance of an Eastern Michigan comeback. BEST PASS Early in the fourth quarter, Hackenberg hung in the pocket, stepped up, and found a wide-open Allen Robinson deep in EMU territory for an easy 45-yard TD pass and catch. The score gave PSU a 31-7 lead and moved Robinson into a tie for eighth place in school history for career TD catches. BEST RUN Bill Belton's 51-yard touchdown carry, which gave Penn State a 38-7 lead, may have been the nicest of the Nittany Lions' five rushing TDs. S e P t e m b e R BEST CATCH Richy Anderson came down with a nice catch on the right sideline early in the third quarter. Tight end Jesse James' 19-yard diving catch early in the fourth quarter gets an honorable mention nod. BEST SACK If it wasn't clear already, DaQuan Jones is a man on a mission this season. His 7-yard sack of QB Tyler Benz early in the third quarter was just another example of his outstanding play so far this season. BEST EFFORT Glenn Carson may not have put together any highlight-reel worthy plays on the afternoon, but his 10 tackles and half of a sack put him at the top of the Nittany Lions' defensive stat sheet. BEST HIT Though Benz completed a pass to Tyreese Russell for 12 yards late in the first half, Adrian Amos put a nasty hit on the wideout. BEST RETURN Eastern Michigan's Tyler 7 , 2 0 1 3 4 Allen will have Penn State's coaching staff scratching its head again after his four returns for 101 yards, including a 32yarder. BEST DECISION O'Brien's penchant for going for it on fourth down paid dividends late in the third quarter when Hackenberg found Brandon Felder for a key 5-yard pickup in the red zone, which led to Zwinak's 7-yard TD carry on the very next play. The score gave Penn State a comfortable 24-7 lead. WORST DECISION Hackenberg made a nice play fake on second-and-9 from the Penn State 43-yard line late in the second quarter, but he forced a pass wide to his left which was directed toward Felder. With two Eagle defenders surrounding Felder, one batted the ball while Mycal Swaim intercepted it, ending the Nittany Lions' chances of taking a commanding halftime lead. – NATE BAUER b l u e w h i t e o n l i n e . c o m
