R E C R U I T I N G NFL legacy WR recruit plans to visit PSU for UCF matchup RYA N   S N Y D E R | BLUE WHITE ILLUSTRATED There weren't a lot of recruiting visitors for Penn State's game against Eastern Michigan, but that probably won't be the case this weekend when Penn State takes on UCF at Beaver Stadium. One rising prospect whom recruiting followers should keep an eye on is 2015 wide receiver Van Jefferson of Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood High. If his travel goes as planned, he will be on the sideline during the pregame warmups Saturday, and then he will watch the JEFFERSON game in the stands. Though he lives in Tennessee, Jefferson has a connection to both Penn State and UCF. His father starred for the Knights in the late-1980s, and Jefferson began his high school football career at St. Mary's High in Orchard Lake, Mich. – the alma mater of leading Penn State wide receiver Allen Robinson. "We thought this would be a great game for us to come up for," Jefferson said. "I want to get up there and watch those guys. "I really want to see Allen do his thing, too. He's a great player, a lot of fun to watch. " Jefferson's father is Shawn Jefferson, a 13-year NFL veteran who is currently coaching wide receivers for the Detroit Lions. While they're still in the midst of figuring out travel plans, Van Jefferson noted that regardless of whether they make the visit or not, Penn State will absolutely be a team he watches very closely this fall. That all started in week one, with the Nittany Lions' game against Syracuse. "It was a fun game to watch," Jefferson said. "I'm always watching Allen Robin- PENN STATE RADIO NETWORK WAEB............. 790-AM....... Of course, he had to sit the first half, but when he came back and made those two plays, it just shows how great of a player he is and how Coach [Bill] O'Brien sets him up to make plays. Also, Christian [Hackenberg] coming in as a freshman, he was dominating as well. "They're going to do a lot of big things, and I'm rooting for them. That's a good group of guys up there [at Penn State]. " Now that recruiting has hit the September deadline, Jefferson realizes that his contact with O'Brien, recruiting coach Stan Hixon and the rest of the Nittany Lion staff is about to take another step forward. That, however, can be said about quite a few universities. "Ohio State has been contacting my coach a lot recently, he said. "Obviously " [there's] UCF, with their connection with my dad. Michigan State and Arkansas have shown steady interest. I haven't talked to Clemson yet, but I know they have some interest, and I'm starting to like them after watching what they did [vs. Georgia.] "It's really early, though. Those are just a few other schools that seem to be pretty interested in me. " In just two games so far this season, Jefferson has amassed 13 receptions for 301 yards and six touchdowns. Penn State also expects rising 2015 linebacker Justin Hilliard of Cincinnati to be in attendance, as well as a host of '15 prospects such as quarterback Alex Hornibrook of Malvern, Pa., quarterback Alex Malzone of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and defensive back Trey Lee and athlete Juwan Brisco of Waldorf, Md. Clearfield (Pa.) linebacker Christian Lezzer, a '14 prospect who is committed to Boston College, will also visit PSU. WZDB.............95.9-FM........................
