One More Year England Native Vicky Fouy Was Granted Another Year Of Eligibility By The NCAA A By Shane Mettlen fter wading through mountains of paperwork, literally crossing the ocean and moving from one continent to another just to get the opportunity to study and compete at Virginia, it was the simple eightkilometer cross country races that gave Vicky Fouhy fits last year. "I should be better than last year," said Fouhy, who is an English graduate student entering her second year competing for the Cavaliers after being granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA. "I was awful last year," she added with a laugh. Fouhy was strictly speaking about her debut cross country season, and was being a bit too hard on herself after scoring for Virginia at the NCAA Southeast Regionals and adding a 10thplace finish at the Panorama Farm Invitational to her short cross country résumé. But cross country was a totally new experience for Fouhy, who was born in her father's native New Zealand before moving as a young child to her mother's homeland in Great Britain. She took up running as a high schooler, relatively late in her athletic career, but quickly developed into a track star. She began to see track as an opportunity to study in the United States, where she's now working on her second master's degree in sports management. But Virginia wasn't originally where she hoped to go. A friend suggested she contact Todd Morgan, who was then at the University of Florida.
