cavalier profile Annie Steinlage Fourth-Year • Soccer After finishing her third-year season at Michigan State, Annie Steinlage had enjoyed great success on the soccer pitch for the Spartans but felt something was missing. That something was a trip to the NCAA Tournament and the ability to achieve team success. Steinlage decided that heading to the East Coast was the best decision for her, and she chose to finish her career in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia. "This was a big decision for me and not an easy one," Steinlage said. "The main thing was soccer and I wanted to go somewhere where we had a shot to win." Steinlage brings a bevy of accolades to head coach Steve Swanson's club as she earned firstteam All-Big Ten Conference honors in her prior two seasons with the Spartans. "I knew from day one after stepping foot on the Grounds that this was the place for me," Steinlage said. "There is a whole different standard academically as well as athletically. Coach [Steve Swanson] does a great job here and it's a lot more professional." The change of scenery seems to be paying off for Steinlage. She the Cavaliers got off to a great start this season at 7-0, fueling high aspirations of an ACC title and beyond. "My goal from day one was to win the ACC and a national championship," Steinlage said. "Right now, we are just taking it one day at a time and focusing on the moment." It's hard to say what the future holds for Steinlage. It is, however, already safe to say that making the decision to complete her final year of college at UVa was the right one. — Brandon Lloyd ◆ Photo by Matt Riley/ courtesy UVa
