VAF Member of the Game For the third year in a row, our Members of the Game program recognizes those individuals who support the work of the Foundation. Among those who have been selected as Members of the Game are donors with a history of loyal support, first time donors, and donors who contribute to the annual campaign, facilities, "Friends of" and endowment giving. We also recognize donors who are long time season ticket holders. Members receive on-field recognition at the games including an appearance on Hoo Vision. Members of the Game for BYU were Michael and Angie Gochenour of Harrisonburg, Va. Michael supports the VAF for two main reasons. "I am a Wahoo through and through and no matter how rough it may get for us fans, I am always proud that we have great student-athletes at the base of each of our programs. Secondly, no one should ever doubt how hard each of these student-athletes work to "earn" their education. I often think about being a student at UVa and then imagine if I had practice and/or training for an additional four to six hours a day. That would be very tough to do." Member of the Game for Oregon was Nick Costas of Richmond, Va., pictured here with daughter Eliza (UVa first-year student) Why Nick supports VAF. "I have always been a great fan of Virginia Sports and the University. I first learned about the VAF when I was younger through my father who was a longtime supporter and his good friend, Ted Davenport, an early leader of the Foundation. To me, the VAF makes it all possible for us to enjoy all of the great teams at the University while assisting great student-athletes in earning a degree. It has been very rewarding to support the VAF for the past several years." Member of the Game for VMI was Lou Showalter of Roanoke, Va., pictured here with wife Van. Lou and Van support VAF and student-athletes because Lou was a student-athlete alum years ago. "I was on the football and wrestling teams and I know how much effort goes into winning. The sacrifices athletes make combined with their God-given talent and love of competition make it all worthwhile. Most importantly, we believe that UVa does it "the right way" with honesty and integrity that makes us proud to be a part of the program."
