He was scheduled to have his walking boot taken off for Wednesday's practice and then be evaluated from there. If Day is hampered, senior Kona Schwenke likely would get the call to start. • Head coach Brian Kelly has won six consecutive games when the outcome was decided by seven or fewer points. The Fighting Irish were 5-0 in such outcomes last year and defeated Purdue 31-24 last week. That could be pertinent this weekend because the Notre Dame-Michigan State game has been decided with the game-winning score coming late in the fourth quarter or overtime in eight of the last 13 meetings. • Since 2010, when Kelly took over as Notre Dame's head coach, Michigan State's 32 victories are tied for the 11th most in the Football Bowl Subdivision. The only Notre Dame opponents this season to have more are Stanford with 37 (tied for No. 2) and Oklahoma with 35 (No. 7). The Irish are tied at No. 16 with 30. • This will be the 77th meeting between the two schools, with Notre Dame holding a 47‑28‑1 advantage after winning the last two years. The Spartans have won 10 of the last 16 meetings in the series. • Michigan State's 28 victories trail only USC's 35 for the most against Notre Dame. The Spartans' 13 victories at Notre Dame Stadium are also the second most on the charts, just behind the Trojans' 14. Michigan State had a record six straight wins at Notre Dame from 1997-2007, a streak that USC will try to match this Oct. 19. • Notre Dame and Michigan State will not meet in 2014 and 2015, their first hiatus in the series since 1995-96. The two teams will meet again in 2016. Call 1-800-925-2500 for friendly, personal service and a Special Discount today!
