JUDGMENT CALLS The best and the rest from the Lions' triumph over Kent State PLAYER OF THE GAME Tailbacks Bill Belton, Akeel Lynch and Zach Zwinak put together their best rushing performance of the season, racking up 278 yards and three touchdowns on 42 carries. PLAY OF THE GAME With the game seemingly at a standstill late in the third quarter, Penn State finally put together a nine-play, 54-yard touchdown drive that was capped by Zwinak's leap into the end zone. With the Lions facing an inept Kent State offense, the score gave them an insurmountable 21-0 lead with less than 20 minutes left to play in the game. BEST PASS Under duress, Christian Hackenberg tossed a dump pass to fellow freshman Adam Breneman early in the fourth quarter to pick up 27 yards. WORST PASS Hackenberg forced a ball to Allen Robinson, leading to an interception by Kent State's Dylan Farrington in the third quarter. BEST RUN Early in the second quarter, Belton rushed left into traffic, then completely changed direction, swerving into an open lane while avoiding a would-be tackler for a 28-yard carry down the right sideline. Lynch's 43yard burst up the middle late in the third quarter earns an honorable mention nod. BEST CATCH Ryan Keiser's first career interception in the third quarter was a doozy. He jumped a route on quarterback Colin Reardon and dived to make the turnover on the left sideline. WORST DROP For the limited opportunities Allen Robinson had, a combination of odd play-calls, poor passes and dropped balls marred his day. On one in particular, a wet ball slid through his hands on a third-down screen pass. BEST SACK On first-and-10 from the Kent State 40-yard line, a gang of Penn State defenders brought down Reardon for a 7-yard loss. The half-sack was Deion Barnes' first of the season. BEST KICK Sam Ficken nailed his 54-yard attempt in the steady rain. The conversion barely missed a Penn State record 55-yarder by Chris Barr in 1975. BEST RETURN Kent State's Darius Polk took the opening kickoff of the second half back 35 yards to the Golden Flashes' 37yard line. WORST DECISION Bill O'Brien's refusal to rely more on the run game in the second half was puzzling, especially on Penn State's third possession of the second half in which he let Hackenberg throw three consecutive incompletions before finally punting. MOST TELLING MOMENT Announced attendance was over 92,000, but a driving rain left plenty of barren bleachers and a line of cars jamming Park Avenue moments after halftime. – NATE BAUER C as u a l Metropolitan Casual M etropolita n Dining ropolita ropolitan tan t g Lu c and Dinne Lunch and Dinner unch inner Sma l Plat Small Plates Small Plates ma la ates Martini Night Martini Nights artin ght rtini tini ts RESTAURA T RE TAURANT RESTAURANT AURANT AURAN ANT www.GigisDining.com We W st College Cato Ave., State College West College & Cato Ave., State Co lege oll le Cat Av a tate oll tate Co ollege S e P t e m b e R 2 1 , 2 0 1 3 814 861 3463 814 . 861 . 3463 6 3463 346 4 b l u e w h i t e o n l i n e . c o m
