fan forum Addition By Subtraction? I have great interest in decommits all over college football, so I enjoyed the "Whatever Happened To …" feature (Sept. 16, 2013 edition of Blue & Gold Illustrated). What your article proves is that it isn't who you lose February through August; it's who you do have in September. The Notre Dame program is in a good place when it can lose top recruits because they are concerned about lack of playing time. I would still like to see more freshmen redshirted. That would be a great sign. Go Irish! Dennis Lynch Via the Internet Mr. Lynch, we're not sure that it's always a great sign if freshmen are redshirted, especially at the skill positions. The feeling at those positions is if you're good enough, you don't need to stay five years in college. Two of national champion Alabama's top players last year were true freshmen in running back T.J. Yeldon (108 yards rushing and a TD against Notre Dame) and receiver Amari Cooper (six catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns versus the Irish).
