ory Jackson was packed and
ready to go. With a plane ticket
in hand and his luggage full, the
former Notre Dame point guard
(2006-10) prepared for life away from
friends and family — including his
8-month-old daughter — in Germany
for 10 months.
But then Jackson received a phone
call that changed his plans, and his
life. Northwood University, a 30-minute drive from his hometown of Saginaw, Mich., offered Jackson an assistant coaching position under the
tutelage of 20-year coaching veteran
Jeff Rekeweg. Jackson quickly made
up his mind that he would in fact stay
home, continue his coaching career
and raise his young daughter.
"Leaving my daughter was the
toughest part," Jackson said. "Having
this position come a day before I had
to leave was a blessing. I just thank
God for it.
"I would hate for anybody to take
care of my daughter other than myself.
