Although most Ohioans — especially those in the northeastern part
of the state — grow up with a certain bias against the University of
Michigan, that wasn't the case for
Twinsburg resident and Lakewood
St. Edward High School player Shaun
Crawford. The junior defensive back
didn't harbor any animosity against
U-M as a child and was in fact a big
Wolverines fan.
"My family has always been Michigan fans," he said. "I grew up watching football around my dad, and he's
always been rooting for Michigan."
When the 5-9, 170-pound Craw-
ford earned an opportunity to attend
Michigan entering May of his sophomore year, he initially planned to accept it immediately. However, he took
his time making a choice, visiting Ann
Arbor for summer camp and again
for the Barbecue at The Big House
recruiting event in late July. He also
took trips to Miami and Notre Dame,
but nothing knocked Michigan out of
the top spot on his list.
"Just the atmosphere, the coaches
always greeting me — it's like a
big family to me," Crawford said.
"They're really close to my family,
and it's kind of like a second family.
