  michigan hockey Captains Ready To Lead By Example Sophomore Andrew Copp, who was voted an alternate captain by his teammates, tallied five goals and four assists while serving as U-M's first-line center in the final 10 games last season. A year ago, Michigan's leadership was brand new, with captain A.J. Treais never having worn a letter before. Neither had alternates Lee Moffie, Kevin Lynch or Mac Bennett. Admittedly, the four struggled to assert themselves. This season, however, Bennett will wear the 'C,' while senior Derek DeBlois and sophomore Andrew Copp, both natural leaders, will don an 'A' on their jerseys. "For one reason or another, the culture will be better," head coach Red Berenson said. "The leadership on this team knows what they have been through, they know what Michigan has been and what it can Photo by per kjeldsen be, and I think they'll take it to a good level this year." It is rare for a sophomore to earn a letter, even the 'A,' but Copp is no ordinary second-year skater. The Ann Arbor native has always occupied a key leadership role on his teams, and impressed with his work ethic and strong two-way play in his rookie year. Copp finished the 2013 campaign as U-M's first-line center, contributing five goals and four assists with a plus/minus of plus-5 in the final 10 games while totaling 11 goals and 10 helpers on the year.
