"A 'bump' would probably be a good word," head coach Brian Kelly said of what the game in Texas means to Notre Dame's recruiting efforts in the Lone Star State. "Is it going to seal the deal for us in a lot of these instances? Probably not, but it certainly helps to have the kind of exposure there." However, Arizona State is its first ranked opponent (No. 22 in the Associated Press poll and No. 24 in USA Today coaches poll) in these offsite "home" games. The winning results were 40-14 versus Washington State (2009 at San Antonio), 27‑3 versus Army (2010 at New York), 45-21 against Maryland (2011 in the Washington, D.C., area) and 41-3 last year against Miami (at Chicago). • Notre Dame's record in the state of Texas is an impressive 17-4 (.810), with the most recent outing a 33-17 Sun Bowl victory against Miami in El Paso on Dec. 31, 2010. The Irish are 9-3 in the city of Dallas, highlighted by a 5-2 mark in the Cotton Bowl from Jan. 1, 1970 through Jan. 1, 1994. • Arizona State running back Marion Grice leads the nation in scoring (18.0 points per game) and rushing touchdowns (eight). He has scored 18 touchdowns in his last seven games.
