JUDGMENT CALLS The best and the rest from PSU's thrilling win over Michigan PLAYER OF THE GAME Christian Hackenberg was far from perfect, but when it counted, he gave the Nittany Lions enough to eek out a thrilling fourovertime win against Michigan. PLAY OF THE GAME With PSU trailing by seven, Allen Robinson hauled in a dramatic 36-yard reception to set up Hackenberg's touchdown sneak one play later, which sent Penn State into overtime, and ultimately the win. BEST PASS Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner connected with Jeremy Gallon for a 16-yard touchdown pass to give the Wolverines a 27-24 lead. Just a few minutes later, Gardner hit paydirt again, locking in on Devin Funchess for a 47-yard touchdown to give Michigan what appeared to be an insurmountable lead. BEST RUN Bill Belton gets two nods for this category, running the ball well all game, but particularly for his fourth- and-1 conversion in quadruple overtime, followed by his 2-yard winning score four plays later. BEST CATCH At a key junction in the game, defensive end Anthony Zettel dropped into coverage and picked off Gardner for the Nittany Lions' second interception of the evening deep in Michigan territory. The next play went to Jesse James for a touchdown. WORST DROP Zach Zwinak could not have chosen a worse time to put the ball on the ground, losing control on the first play of the second half, which let Michigan's Frank Clark score on the return. BEST SACK On a first-and-10 from his own 20-yard line, Hackenberg hung in the pocket too long, opening himself up to Clark's wrath. The sack only went for a 1-yard loss but pounded the Nittany Lions' first-year quarterback to the turf. BEST HIT Michigan defensive tackle Jibreel Black absolutely lit up Hackenberg from behind on a second-and-6 late in the third quarter. The 7-yard sack forced Penn State's 45-yard field goal attempt two plays later. BEST EFFORT Not sure how this category can belong to anyone other than the entire Penn State team. BEST DECISION Bill O'Brien pushed his luck and went for it on fourth-and-1 in overtime. It could have been a secondguessed decision for a long, long time. He acknowledging the risk, but he knew there was an opportunity to win the game. MOST TELLING MOMENT With the Blue Band playing the closing notes of the alma mater, O'Brien sprinted toward the student section, let his competitive spirit boil over and slapped high-fives with the Nittany Lions' loudest cheering section. – NATE BAUER Get 15% OFF each time you visit your student Li n Co io untry L odging n .com .c lioncountrylodging.com PE ParentNN STATE Discoun t Plan o c t o b e R 1 2 , 2 0 1 3 4 b l u e w h i t e o n l i n e . c o m
