N By Jacey Zembal C State has revived its once strong men's swimming program under third-year head coach Braden Holloway. NC State compiled 74 points to finish 15th at the NCAA Championships last year, which was the best Wolfpack performance since 1978-79. NCSU also finished fifth at the ACC Championships, and Holloway was named the league's Coach of the Year for his efforts. ■PREVIEW men's swimming The men's team posted 42 school alltime top-10 marks, and set school records in 14 different events. Holloway said the next step for the men's team is to trust that they can have consistency at swimming at a high level. CollegeSwimming.com ranks the Wolfpack No. 14 in the country this season. "That got them excited to be proud of the work that they have put in, but at the same time to be hungry to take it to the next step as well. It put a lot of faith of our team into our staff." Senior Barrett Miesfeld leads the way after winning the ACC title in the 100 butterfly, and then clocking a school-record time of 46.14 seconds to finish seventh and earn first-team All-America honors in the same event at the NCAA Championships. In addition, senior Jonathan Boffa earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 100 freestyle (43.00) and is poised for a big final season. "The goal for those two guys [Miesfeld and Boffa] is to get on the podium for top three," Holloway said. "Barrett was our top finisher last year. They were happy with what they did last year, but want more. They want to leave their mark before they graduate." NC State had numerous individuals and relays reach the NCAA Championships last year.
