The only nonconference opponent to appear on the 2018 and '19 schedules is Pitt. The games against the Panthers, set to take place Sept. 8, 2018, at Heinz Field and Sept. 14, 2019, at Beaver Stadium, mark the continuation of a four-game series that begins in 2016. The release of the 2018 and '19 schedules was nearly overshadowed by a glitch at the Big Ten Network in which a PDF of the partially completed 2020 composite schedule was made available online. The PDF was quickly pulled, but not before The Daily Collegian noticed that LSU appeared on Penn State's slate in an apparent neutral-site game set to take place on Sept. 5 of that year. Penn State spokesman Jeff Nelson later confirmed that there have been talks between the two schools, which last faced each other in the 2010 Capital One Bowl. THE MONTH IN... BLOGS The past two years have provided a harsh lesson on how easy it is for others to hold the actions of a few against an entire community. We've all heard countless references to "Penn State's guilt," as if an institution can do anything, and as if such careless language doesn't have repercussions for everyone affiliated with it. We know this; we've lived it. Too often now, such generalizations are directed at fellow members of this community. Alumni think this; students don't understand that. Our internal discourse has taken on the worst aspects of our national political discourse: so much shouting, so little listening. No matter what side you're on, you can see where that's gotten us. If it continues, we only hurt Penn State. Which is to say, we only hurt ourselves. RYAN JONES THE PENN STATER FENCING Penn State upholds coach's dismissal Penn State has upheld the firing of Emmanuil Kaidanov, the title-winning coach whose employment was terminated in August following an alleged violation of the university's anti-retaliation policy. Kaidanov, who won 12 national championships in his 31-year tenure with the Nittany Lions, was denied grievance by the university on Oct. 11. Lawyer Alvin de Levi said Kaidanov might file a lawsuit against Penn State in hope of winning back his job if the university doesn't allow an appeals process. "Penn State's firing of him was a huge overreaction, a wrongful termination, de " Levi told the Centre Daily Times. "They should immediately reinstate Coach. " Kaidanov filed for grievance in order to dispute Penn State's claim that he confronted a secretary who reported to officials that a fencer was in possession of marijuana. The policy Kaidanov allegedly violated pertains to retaliation against a whistle-blower. The fencer who was the subject of the report voluntarily took a drug test and passed. I OPINIONS [Allen Robinson] is transforming himself into Penn State's recordsmashing receiver or a second- or third-round pick next year, should he leave early. His hands are better than last year, his cutback move is among the best in college football and he gives up his body for catches. Is he a handful? Probably. O'Brien benched Robinson for the first half against Syracuse, and the receiver can get antsy if he goes without a touch for long stretches. But the Big Ten's leading receiver (43 catches, 705 yards) isn't merely amassing numbers. He has altered nearly every game this season in ways others haven't. MARK WOGENRICH THE ALLENTOWN MORNING CALL Conceivably, the Lions can stay competitive without a dominating post presence. The game continues to stretch away from the paint and value guards as scorers. But it's hard to see how Penn State can make much progress without somebody dependably banging home threes. The Lions shot a brutal .296 from the arc last season and, with Jermaine Marshall graduated, no one on the current roster managed better than Newbill's .289 last year. Frazier can shoot it better than that but you want your star point guard distributing as much as possible. And you want floor balance. DAVID JONES THE (HARRISBURG) PATRIOT-NEWS QUOTES It was ridiculous out there. At one point, I couldn't breathe. DONOVAN SMITH FOLLOWING THE NITTANY LIONS' QUADRUPLE-OVERTIME VICTORY OVER MICHIGAN I don't know how I did it. I was on fire. That was pretty wild.
