national championship contenders set to visit the Bryce Jordan Center on Nov. 17. The Lady Lions are also set to welcome Notre Dame (Dec. 4) and Texas A&M (Dec. 15) before launching their Big Ten season Jan. 5 at Iowa. Washington described the Lady Lions' arduous nonconference schedule as "where we want to be. " "We want to be a program that plays the best teams in the country, not just the best teams in our area, she said. "We " want to play UConn, we want to play Tennessee, we want to play Stanford. We're excited about playing Notre Dame. We want to be one of those programs that plays against the marquee talent, so I don't expect our schedule [to vary] from year to year in terms of competitiveness. We want to vary it up and get different teams in here, but we like being tested. … I think that's how you grow your program, when you're testing yourselves against I the nation's best. " Lady Lions to host NCAA subregional Penn State has been selected as one of 16 universities to host first- and second-round games in the 2014 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship tournament. The designated game dates had not been announced at press time, but the first and second rounds are slated to take place March 22-25. The other universities that will play host to first- and second-round games are Iowa State, LSU, North Carolina, Maryland, Texas A&M, Duke, Iowa, Tennessee, Kentucky, UCLA, Washington, Connecticut, Toledo, Baylor and Purdue. The 2014 regional rounds will take place in Lincoln, Neb., Louisville, Ky., Notre Dame, Ind., and Stanford, Calif. "We are really thrilled to host the NCAA tournament this year," Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington said. "We wanted this year to be a treat for our fans and this community, and when you look at the outstanding level of competition coming through the BJC this year, we've certainly accomplished that. Jenn James, Kathy Drysdale, Amy Ridenour and the rest of our marketing and events staff do an incredible job of making Lady Lion basketball games a wonderful experience. This year is going to be a season like no other, and we get to end the year with a bang by hosting two NCAA tournament games. I can't think of a better way for Maggie Lucas and the rest of the seniors to finish their Penn State careers." Penn State last hosted the first and second rounds in 2011 when the Lady Lions, DePaul, Dayton and Navy competed in the Bryce Jordan Center.
