✦ News & notes Miscellaneous Notes • This is the 87th meeting between Notre Dame and Navy, or every year since 1927. No other team has played the Irish more often. Notre Dame holds a 73-12-1 lead and won 43 straight from 1964-2006, an NCAA record by one team against another. The Midshipmen then won three of the next four before the Irish outscored them 56-14 in 2011 and 50‑10 in last year's opener. • Navy has outscored its seven opponents this year 38-9 in the first quarter and not given up a touchdown. The first quarter has been Notre Dame's weakest, a 45-45 tie. The Irish opponent has scored first in six of the last seven games — and scored the first TD each of the last seven games. Navy has scored a touchdown on its opening possession four of its first seven games. Notre Dame has not scored on its opening series seven straight games. • Head coach Brian Kelly said 60 of the 73 players who made the trip to Air Force saw action — the most in his four seasons at Notre Dame. 7225 Heritage Square Drive, Granger, IN 574-272-2292 | SohoJapaneseBistro.com Japanese Bistro / Tapan Grill / Sushi Bar Minutes From Notre Dame Junior running back Cam McDaniel drew national attention, and likely some ribbing from his teammates, when a helmetless action photo of him took on a life of its own on the Internet. photo by bill panzica • On the injury front, junior Cat linebacker Ishaq Williams (knee) has been the only Notre Dame player ruled out against Navy, although senior nose guard Louis Nix III (tendinitis in knee) is listed "questionable." Fifth-year senior right guard Chris Watt (knee) and sophomore defensive end Sheldon Day are considered "probable" to play. • Junior running back Cam McDaniel's helmetless photo of him running against USC Oct. 19 took on a life of its own on the Internet throughout the week and landed him on NBC's Today Show last Friday morning while a female audience swooned over the image. "If I was his teammate I certainly would have given him a hard time over it," Kelly said. "I don't know what his teammates did. But I've been in a locker room for 25 years — I'm sure there were a couple of guys who did." ✦ Page 12
