CLOSE TO THE HEART
Carter's first TD catch of the
season – a 15-yarder in overtime –
lifted Penn State to victory Saturday.
THE
GAME
AT A GLANCE
GOOD NEWS This game
was much closer than
some fans would have
liked, but in the end,
Christian Hackenberg
zipped a decisive 15yard touchdown pass
to Kyle Carter that
will keep most of
those fans smiling.

Years ago, when he was still playing primarily on
the scout team, Ryan Keiser always seemed to be
where the ball was. If it ricocheted off a shoulder
pad, or was tipped by a teammate, or took a weird
bounce that no one else could have anticipated,
Keiser was there to intercept it.
"It always seemed like he was in the right place
at the right time," said his fellow defensive back
n o V e m b e R
2 ,
Adrian Amos. "Keiser is real religious, so I would
tell him it was heaven-sent. He's just always been
around the ball.
"
On Saturday afternoon, Keiser was there again.
Right place. Right time.
Penn State had gotten a late field goal from Sam
Ficken to send the game to overtime, then got a
clutch touchdown catch by tight end Kyle Carter

BAD NEWS Think
Michigan. Penn State
should have had this
one wrapped up in the
first half, but again it
squandered opportunity after opportunity
and allowed Illinois to
snatch the lead in the
second half – only to
relinquish it in overtime.
THE TAKEAWAY A win is
a win, and considering that Penn State
dressed almost 30
fewer scholarship
players than Illinois,
it'll take a victory any
way it is presented.
