football recruiting Notre Dame Is A No-Brainer For Nic Weishar By Tom Loy W hen Notre Dame offers a prospect from thousands of miles away, the recruit is usually in shock and awe over the fact that such a prestigious program wants him to don the golden helmet. The student-athlete usually refers to the famous movie "Rudy" and quickly notes that it's the only thing he knows about the school. On the flip side, recruits from the Midwest don't always show the same excitement and can take a Notre Dame offer for granted. However, that wasn't the case for Chicago native Nic Weishar. The Marist High School tight end picked up an offer from Notre Dame in April 2012, and exactly one year later the 6-5, 233-pound prospect committed to the Fighting Irish football program. "Committing to Notre Dame was really an easy decision for me," said Weishar. "I've always liked them growing up and as I became a better football player and big schools started calling, it was really the offer that I wanted above any other. "I live less than 90 minutes away from the campus, and I've been to plenty of games at Notre Dame and they were always on TV. It was easy for me to be interested in them. The Marist Red Hawks were 6-3 on the season heading into November, and Weishar was a major reason for the team's success. As the starting tight end and outside linebacker, he is a vital member on both sides of the ball. On offense, Weishar has caught 72 passes for 900 yards and nine touchdowns. On defense, the Notre Dame commit has 66 tackles and two interceptions. Weishar is ranked as a four-star
