Reason To Celebrate
Fourth-year midfielder Annie Steinlage (10) delivered a golden goal 54 seconds into overtime to give top-ranked
Virginia a 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten No. 3 Florida State Oct. 27. The victory clinched the Cavaliers' first-ever
regular-season ACC title. UVa went on to finish the regular season 19-0-0 (13-0-0 ACC), becoming the first team to
notch a perfect league record since North Carolina in 2006.
"I don't think it has set in yet," head coach Steve Swanson said of winning the regular-season crown. "In this day
and age, with the quality and depth of this conference, it is a great accomplishment."
The Cavaliers trailed in a game just four times during the regular season — the last time coming against Duke Sept.
26 — and closed out that portion of their schedule with a scoreless streak of 569:05. UVa opened postseason play
with a 6-1 triumph over Maryland Nov. 3 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals to notch the first 20-win campaign
in program history.
