michigan recruiting While the list of expected seniors isn't as large, that's inevitable given how early the Michigan's coaches filled their class (the most recent commitment came Aug. 9 from local two-star linebacker Jared Wangler, with only three more pledges — totaling 18 — expected in the group). However, nearly all of Michigan's 2014 commitments will be in atten- dance. Given the class' No. 19 national ranking, that's an impressive group nonetheless. A few possible — but not confirmed — 2014 targets such as Cleveland Glenville four-star teammates and defensive backs Marshon Lattimore and Erick Smith, and Jenks (Okla.) safety Steven Parker, the No. 46 player in the country, could the Miscellaneous Notes • Michigan 2015 commitment Shaun Crawford, a four-star defensive back from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward, is a candidate for Mr. Football in the state of Ohio. The 5-9, 165-pounder is a two-way contributor for the Eagles, who were one of Ohio's strongest teams during the 2013 season. St. Edwards carried a 10-1 record into the third round of the state playoffs, and Crawford had contributed eight offensive touchdowns, three blocked kicks and three interceptions. • Crawford's future teammate Chase Winovich, a senior linebacker from Jefferson Hills (Pa.) Thomas Jefferson High School, is a candidate for player of the year honors in the Pittsburgh area, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Winovich, who is ranked as a three-star recruit, the No. 32 linebacker in the country and No. 15 player in the state of Pennsylvania by Rivals.com, made a huge impact on both sides of the ball as a senior. He recorded a team-high 73 stops, including 15 for loss and 11 sacks, and rushed for 766 yards and 16 touchdowns for an 11-1 team that lost in the second round of the state playoffs. The 6-3, 216-pounder has the ability to play any of Michigan's three linebacker positions. • Rivals.com's updated recruiting rankings for the 2014 class are set to be released the week of Dec. 4. The top-100 players list will be presented Monday, and the rest of the rankings will be rolled out over the following three days. The same weeklong timeline will be repeated with the 2015 group. The initial rankings for the 2015 class will be released Dec. 9. That class has already been issued stars, but a 1-250 ranking of the best players will give an indication of which schools are off to the best starts for 2015. With a five-star and three fourstars already in the fold, U-M is certain to be featured prominently. Michigan's 2015 class is expected to be even smaller than the 2014 group. While the class that signs in February should reach 17 or 18 pledges, there are only 12 openings at this time for the class of 2015. While that number can grow with attrition, it's likely that nearly half of the class is already pledged with six members in the fold.
