✦ News & notes Miscellaneous Notes • Notre Dame leads the series against Stanford, 18-9 and is 6-6 in Stanford Stadium. Other than 1995-96, the two teams have met every season since 1988. Along with USC and Navy, it is one of three rivalries Notre Dame would prefer that it not get interrupted. One of the prime reasons is to keep a recruiting presence in California by ending evennumbered seasons at USC and oddnumbered ones at Stanford. • Notre Dame and Stanford join Alabama as the lone teams to defeat three teams in the top 25 of the BCS standings. The Fighting Irish have beaten Michigan State, Arizona State and USC — who are a combined 18-0 since losing to Notre Dame. Stanford has vanquished Arizona State, UCLA and Oregon. • Stanford's 15-game home winning streak is the third longest in the nation, behind Northern Illinois (26 games) and South Carolina (17). The Cardinal is 36-3 (.923) at Stanford Stadium since the final home game of 2007 — which happened to be a 21-14 loss to Notre Dame to cap a nightmare 3-9 Irish campaign. He is currently tied with former Notre Dame offensive tackle Sam Young (2006-09) with 50 straight starts. • Stanford starting quarterback Kevin Hogan is the nephew of Notre Dame 1966-68 quarterback/running back Coley O'Brien, who helped the Irish to the 1966 national title with his play against No. 2 Michigan State and Pac-8 champion USC in the final two games. Hogan also is the nephew of former Irish tackle Ivan Brown (1973). Kelly admitted the Irish entered the recruiting derby too late on Hogan the year they ended up signing Everett Golson.
