Barber joined the starting lineup after scoring
a career-high 22 points off the bench versus
NC Central Nov. 20, and the Pack recorded
victories in each of his first three starts.

Like a quarterback in football, learning
the progressions of players getting open is
something he'll continue to improve.
"He just needs to see the floor, keep
his head up and his eyes open," Lee said.
"He'll then be able to see the next pass
before it happens. Sometimes, he'll just
push the ball down the floor and stay on
one target, instead of surveying the whole
floor."
Barber has shown in a few instances that
when the shot clock is winding down, he
can create something out of nothing. His
ability to create for himself, draw a foul
or pass to a teammate makes him a tough
cover in one-on-one situations.
Sometimes Barber will hear Gottfried
yell: "Take him."
"He can do that in practice a lot, so we
don't really panic in those situations," Lee
said. "Sometimes we'll panic when he's
dribbling and yell, 'Yo, there is eight seconds!' He'll just dribble the ball, but then
he'll make stuff happen."
Barber's propensity to make things happen could be the trademark of the next era
of NC State basketball. ■
