■ football recruiting 200-pounder played defensive back in high school prior to this fall when he moved to end. Arkansas, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Rutgers and Wake Forest are among Ramsey's other offers. His older brother Allen Ramsey is a redshirt sophomore corner at Wake Forest, but Kentucky was considered NCSU's top rival heading into December with Arkansas the wild card. The Wolfpack is expected to get a visit from four-star athlete T.J. Harrell of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic. Rated by Rivals.com as the No. 246 overall player in the country and No. 49 prospect in Florida, the 6-1, 210-pound Harrell could play running back, receiver, linebacker or safety in college. Louisville is Harrell's leader, and he will officially visit Ole Miss and NC State in January. He has already traveled to Michigan State. Pack Commits Improve In Updated Rivals Rankings Several NC State verbal commitments in the 2014 class saw jumps in the updated Rivals.com rankings released Dec. 5. Most noticeable was Jaylen Samuels from Charlotte Mallard Creek High. Previously listed by Rivals.com as a two-star athlete, Samuels was moved to the fullback position, given a third star and listed as the No. 2 fullback nationally. Samuels has led Mallard Creek to an undefeated 14-0 season going into the 4-AA state semifinals. He has rushed 89 times for 1,252 yards and 34 touchdowns, and caught 43 passes for 812 yards and 14 scores. Defensive end Deonte Holden of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic also debuted in the strongside defensive end positional rankings, checking in at No. 31 in the country. Quarterback Jalan McClendon from Charlotte's West Mecklenburg High went from previously unranked to the No. 24 pro-style signal-caller. Punter A.J. Cole of College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy was also listed in the kicker rankings (includes both placekickers and punters) for the first time, coming in at No. 6. Holden, McClendon and Cole remain three-star prospects. Wide receiver Maurice Trowell from Durham (N.C.) Southern High was bumped up from a two-star to three-star. Trowell has led Southern to the state 3-AA semifinals by catching 78 passes for 1,492 yards and 16 touchdowns, rushing for a score, and returning both a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in 14 games, helping the Spartans win 12 of them. ■ For regular reports on NC State football recruiting plus videos of Wolfpack commitments and targets visit TheWolfpacker.com.
