he parking lot did not overflow. The banquet hall at
Laurel Manor in Livonia,
Mich., was not bustling. In
one corner, a contingent of Wolverines
from the 1997 team sat, with a few of
their coaches, including Lloyd Carr,
joining them. Fans approached in deference, not seeking autographs but
just wanting to glimpse the national
champions while considering better
times for the Michigan program.
It seemed like something didn't
fit at U-M's Football Bust Dec. 9 …
the Wolverines honoring one of their
greatest teams on a night that 18 seniors from a 7-5 squad were given the
opportunity to speak.
It would have been more appropriate had this year's team earned a Big
