BY TOM LOY N otre Dame cornerbacks coach Kerry Cooks offered Schertz (Texas) Sam- uel Clemens linebacker Kolin Hill a scholarship Nov. 14 and Hill was instantly speechless. He was pretty much set on deciding between Boise State and Colorado, but the Fighting Irish came out of nowhere and flipped his recruitment upside down. "I remember talking to Cooks when he offered me, but I couldn't tell you what I said," the 6-2, 220-pounder re- called. "I'm not sure if I really said anything to be honest. I was definitely struggling to get words out and was surprised to get that offer. "It was crazy hearing how bad Notre Dame wanted me. He said that he needed me and that I was a priority for them. That was one of the craziest moments of my life." After picking up his offer, Hill made plans to take an official visit to South Bend and see what Notre Dame had to offer. He spent 48 hours learning all about Notre Dame and meeting with the coaches. On the plane ride home, he decided that he was going to be Irish. "It was funny," Hill said. "I was sit- ting in my hotel room and I was just laying there and I couldn't even sleep because I was excited about Notre Dame. I was leaving the next day to head home and I didn't really want to leave. That's when I knew I wanted to commit there. "I didn't commit on my visit. I kind of decided that I would think about it on the way home and go from there. I was on the plane with my dad and talked to him about it.
