"I know to try not to get i Penn State suffered its first loss of the season at Minnesota on Feb. 9, falling to the Golden Gophers, 18-17. The defeat pre- vented the Nittany Li- ons from completing what would have been their first undefeated Big Ten season under Cael Sanderson. The Lions and Gophers will now share the league's 2013-14 dual meet title. "Championships are not easy to come by," associate head coach Cody Sanderson told Jeff Byers of the Penn State Sports Network after the match. "I'm grateful to be part of a team and staff and [to be] with these athletes in wining these types of awards. We're happy to be able to share some of that." While Sanderson and his team were appreciative of the title, they weren't satisfied with the outcome of the dual meet. Although Penn State won five of the 10 bouts, it was a fall at 157 pounds – Minnesota's Dylan Ness pinned Dylan Alton in the third period – that gave Minnesota enough bonus points to claim the overall victory. Penn State finishes the conference dual meet season with a 7-1 record. Over the past decade, only three NCAA champions have completed their dual meet season undefeated. "We just have to learn from [the loss]," Sanderson said. "I'm kind of a little bit sick to my stomach, but that's just the competitor in me. You look at the per- formances [and in] every match we can find places to get better. As a team, there are some positives to focus on and there are places to get better. It's big deal, but it's not a big deal." Penn State's most notable victory of the meet came from 197-pound Morgan McIntosh, who defeated top-ranked Scott Schiller with three takedowns and a reversal in the 8-4 decision. Said Sanderson, "Hopefully he realizes how good he is after that win." Penn State hosts Oklahoma State Feb. 16 before capping the season with a home dual vs. Clarion Feb. 23. – T.O.
