including the Nittany Lions. Franklin made
it clear that Haley had a scholarship o=er
at Penn State, and the cornerback prospect
decided to take an uno>cial visit Jan. 19-
20. Before leaving campus, he committed
to the Lions. All told, he had nine o=ers,
including o=ers from such programs as
Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, Ten-
nessee and Wisconsin.
WHO OPENED THE DOOR Haley's decision to
sign with Penn State was all about Franklin.
However, it didn't hurt the Lions' cause
that his mother is a Penn State alum.
QUOTABLE Haley: "I'm excited to play in
front of 107,000 people. I'm excited to be
a part of this program. It's a very historic
program and I'm glad I could follow my
mom's footsteps and attend such a great
school."
PHIL'S TAKE Like wideout Troy Apke, Haley
looks to be a bit underrated. He has 4.5-
second 40-yard speed and may be the
best cover cornerback in the Nittany Li-
ons' class. Depth at cornerback could be
a concern going into spring practice, es-
pecially if senior Adrian Amos moves to
free safety. Haley also is an excellent cen-
ter;elder in baseball and has been scouted
by the Chicago White Sox. He's got quick
recial visit within a week and
committed on the spot.
