room was every bit as vital as what he witnessed on the football field in Ann Arbor. "The neat part is, you are in the homes before Christmas with the guys who came early," he recalled. "Being in there with the mothers and the dads and the grandmas, how they treat each other, it's really neat. That's the fun part about recruiting. After January, getting in the homes with all of the families, their com- mitments to their sons to their next journey, is really neat." Both Watson and Canteen hail from great families that instilled a strong work ethic at a young age, Thomas said, one of the reasons both were able to earn high-major offers. The two have known each other since middle school and have fed off each other's competitiveness, allow- ing both to thrive. Now roommates at Michigan, the two have continued their friendly — but fierce — rivalry in preparing for the potential of early playing time at U-M. "We have a really good relation- ship, but it's always a competition," Watson said. "We like to compete, to push each other to get better. "Playing against Freddy has helped me a lot. His routes are really crisp, so you don't know whether he's going deep or going to come back on you real quick. He's so fast getting in and out of his routes … going against him, it makes everyone else I faced seem like they are run- ning slower."
