The more success Maurice Ways has on the football field, the loftier his goals get and the more he is will- ing and eager to work to achieve them. When Ways, who committed to Michigan out of Beverly Hills (Mich.) Detroit Country Day, had a breakout junior season, racking up 51 catches for 957 yards and nine touchdowns, he saw that he might have a future in the sport. So Ways hit the offseason hard, working to improve his game in ev- ery way. He did just that, building speed, strength, agility and route- running ability, heading into his final season. And when Ways saw that work pay off, with 55 receptions for 1,261 yards and 16 touchdowns as a se- nior, it pushed him even harder to spend the winter, spring and sum- mer months working to become the best football player he can be by the start of his freshman season with the Wolverines. "Mo is a guy who said, 'I know I am just as good as them, and I'm going to prove it. You guys didn't rank me high, but I'm going to prove myself,'" Michigan wide receivers coach Jeff Hecklinski said. "Everyone had questions when we went into the spring. We liked him, and that's why we offered. And now you look at him and you can tell he's working hard to be good."
