Incoming freshman tight end Ian Bunting stands tall in more ways than one. He's just a shade less than 6-7, making him a highly visible re- ceiving target, but his attitude ap- pears to clear seven feet. Bunting posted more than 400 yards receiving as a junior wideout at Hinsdale (Ill.) Central High, but the team lost its quarterback to in- jury early in his senior season. Bun- ting's receiving stats plummeted, but his preparation for Michigan really began in earnest. Projected as a tight end at the col- legiate level, Bunting didn't waste any time moping about statistical might-have-beens in his senior cam- paign. "It was frustrating, but we just made adjustments," Bunting noted. "We did whatever we had to do to win. At the end of the day, I'd much rather win and have no touchdowns than have five touchdowns in a game and lose. "That [quarterback shuffle] led to me putting my hand in the dirt and getting used to a three-point stance, doing a little tight end work and some blocking. That ended up help- ing me out in the long run." IAN BUNTING HAS UPSIDE IN ATTITUDE, AND MORE Bunting hauled in 27 receptions for 583 yards (21.6 yards per catch) and four touchdowns during his three-year career at Hinsdale (Ill.) Central High.
