BY CHRIS BALAS A fter winning the Big Ten regular-season crown by a whopping three games and advancing to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight for the sec- ond straight year, the Michigan bas- ketball program is on as solid ground as its been in decades. Success breeds success, and it also opens doors for those involved to advance their careers. Such was the case when sophomores Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas an- nounced April 15 that they'd forego their final two years of eligibility to enter the NBA Draft, while another sophomore — big man Mitch Mc- Gary — remained on the fence head- ing toward the April 27 deadline to declare. "A rising tide raises all boats," as- sistant coach Jeff Meyer said after the two players announced. It was a bittersweet moment for all involved, but head coach John Beilein expressed nothing but excite- ment for his players' futures. "In a very short period of time, these two young men have had a very positive impact on the Michigan basketball program," Beilein said. "From day one, Glenn and Nik have had the right attitude and work ethic that has helped us enjoy so much of our recent success. "They both understand that they will need to continue to work even harder in the years to come to ac- complish their goals in the NBA. We will continue to do whatever we can to assist and guide them as they take this next step in their basketball ca- reers. We are excited for Glenn and Nik as they pursue this next stage of their life and begin their professional careers." Beilein and his staff also had kind words when redshirt junior Jon Hor- ford surprised some by announcing he'd graduate from Michigan and spend his final year of eligibility with another program rather than return for a fifth year.
