10 ■ THE WOLFPACKER We had a beautiful day for our an- nual Kay Yow Spring Game. A total of $16,451.15 was raised at the game, and all proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Can- cer Fund and the Wolfpack Club's Kay Yow Scholarship Endowment. I continue to be so impressed with the support and commitment of the Wolfpack fans. We had a great spring and I was very pleased with the hard work and effort of our players. I was happy with the progress we made in all three phases of the game. A major addition we had this spring were our early enrollees. We had nine players enroll early in school, and I think they benefited greatly from these 15 practices. A great addition to our spring game fes- tivities was our first annual Wolfpack Foot- ball Alumni Game. It was a lot of fun to watch some of these Wolfpack legends take the field and show that they still can play the game. Luckily no one was seriously injured and I think this is going to be something everyone looks forward to every year. Along with all of the alumni who came back for the Spring Game, we recognized our for- mer players who played in Su- per Bowl XLVIII. The Super Bowl champion Seattle Se- ahawks' J.R. Sweezy, Steven Hauschka (could not attend) and Russell Wilson, along with the Denver Broncos' Nate Irving, were recognized for their outstanding performances in the championship game. NC State has claim to more champions of Super Bowl XLVIII than any other school in the country! We were very fortunate to welcome Russell Wilson back to Carter-Finley Stadium to honor his jersey. I asked Rus- sell to talk to the team before the game and he immediately accepted. He gave a very powerful speech and talked about having a championship mindset. He told our players to look at every day as an op- portunity to get better. I think he really hit home with our guys and I am so thankful he was willing to do that for us. The goal of every spring is to come out healthy and better then when we started, and we accomplished both. The players will have the next couple of weeks to pre- pare for their finals before we head into our summer strength and conditioning pro- gram. We are a young team, which means that these summer months will be very im- portant for our development. Because col- lege football is basically a year-round com- mitment, players have to love the game. I think we have a team that loves football and they work hard at it. I can't wait to get back on the field with them. 1Pack1Goal!
