2014 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE "I couldn't tell you who is one, two or three, but those eight schools have really put in a lot of time and effort into recruiting Jalen, and he recognized that," Rick Brunson said. "I think the main thing is Jalen is looking for the opportunity to play right away … whether it be 18-20 minutes a game or starting. We don't want Jalen to sit for a year or two and then come in as a junior and then be the player." Outlook: Colleges have been pursu- ing Rick Brunson as an assistant coach, but he insists that won't factor into his son's decision. "He's interested in all eight of those schools, and if someone were leading or he decided he wanted to commit to Coach Beilein, he's not going to drag it out," he said. "There's a good mix of coaches he wants to decide from, and he plans to take some visits." Having a sophomore point guard and returning starter in Derrick Walton Jr. won't be a huge factor, he added ("If you're afraid of competition he should be playing Division II," his fa- ther quipped), nor will distance. But we still believe the Wolverines face an uphill battle here. That happens when you score 41 points in a game like he did for Wisconsin Play- ground Elite AAU in early May at the Spiece Run-n-Slam in Fort Wayne, Ind. Davidson, Drake and Toledo were his biggest offers to that point, but Michigan called — he visited May 11 — and Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Carolina State joined Indiana and even North Carolina in inquiring. "I liked Michigan a lot," he reported of the visit May 13, while on a visit to Wisconsin. Pritzl has followed U-M closely over the last few years. "I really like the way Nik Stauskas While not ranked on the national level as of mid-May, Brevin Pritzl could be listed among the top-100 players in the nation the next time Rivals.com updates its rankings.
