PREP PROFILES As a junior, Georgia running back Mikell Lands-Davis rushed for 2,374 yards and 27 touchdowns on 317 carries, and caught 22 passes for 358 yards and a score. He followed that up by showing off his quickness and soft hands during drills at the Rivals Camp Series event in Atlanta dur- ing March, confirming what some already felt — he might be one of the more underrated backs in the 2015 class. Clemson has been on him as long as anyone, and the Tigers' coaches have picked up serious interest again after cooling for a few months. Michigan joined Wisconsin, North Carolina and others on his offer list when wide receivers coach Jeff Hecklinski stepped forth in May. "They really like me; I fit their style," Lands-Davis said of Mich- igan. "They told me since I'm from the South, we really don't hear about Michigan too much. I learned it's Big Ten; it's a really big school. He was telling me there are 115,000 people that go there on game day. It's the biggest stadium in the nation." The added interest has forced Lands-Davis to take a deeper look into his recruitment. He'll start tak- ing visits in June, with Michigan, Cal, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest on the docket. One school had emerged as his leader until Michigan offered. "Georgia Tech is probably still re- cruiting me the hardest," Lands-Da- vis said. "But even though I just got an offer from Michigan, I've been talking to them a lot, too, and Wis- consin. Georgia Tech has shown me the most love, but several schools are showing me a lot of love now, too. "The schools I want to visit, those are going to be top ones. When I visit them, I'm going to have a pretty good feel. I'm going to make my decision before the season, on August 1 probably." Distance won't be a factor when it's time to decide, he added. "If you're going somewhere, you might as well do it big, right?" he said. "It's more about what's best for me. Georgia Tech, 30 minutes down the street, might be best for me, or a school eight hours away might be best.
