BY BRANDEN HUNTER W ith college seniors de- parting from the Michi- gan ranks, a crop of high school seniors will make their transition into Division I stu- dent-athletes. Some are highly touted recruits, while others will still have something to prove as they further their careers. Here is a look at 10 of the best in- coming recruits for U-M's women's Olympic teams for the 2014-15 cam- paign (in alphabetical order). Tera Blanco, softball: Blanco can play multiple positions in the infield, but she will probably have more of an impact as a pitcher. She went an amazing 25-4 with a 0.70 ERA and struck out a whop- ping 229 batters in her junior year for Huntington Beach Marina High School in Huntington Beach, Calif., solidifying herself as one of the best pitchers in the country. She is the No. 3 overall recruit and the No. 1 hurler in the country according to StudentSports.com. "I can't judge how good a player will be until they leave their pro- gram," head coach Carol Hutchins said. "But I do believe she can be a contributor for us next season from the mound. She has good stuff and is a winner." Blanco can also hit, batting .420 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 2013. Gabby DeLoof, swimming: Michigan's swimming squad already has a De- Loof on its roster in rising junior Ali. They'll add another this fall. The Grosse Pointe, Mich., native is rated as the No. 2 recruit in Michi- gan and the No. 144 overall pros- pect in the nation by CollegeSwim- ming.com. The Wolverines beat out Ohio State, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Florida State for DeLoof's services. "Swimming is in Gabby's blood, obviously," head coach Mike Bottom said. "She's a strong swimmer, just like her sister, who could come in a make an immediate impact for our team. "I know she's excited to swim with her sister again, and the university is happy to have her."
