  MICHIGAN IN THE PROS BY CHRIS BALAS F ormer Michigan infielder Chris Getz is a major leaguer no more. The 30-year-old announced his retire- ment after being released from the Toronto Blue Jays' 40-man roster fol- lowing a .160 showing in 28 plate ap- pearances — that after starting the season at Triple-A Buffalo and batting .309. Getz decided to call it a career rather than return to the minor leagues when the Blue Jays wanted to send him back to Buffalo. "I've enjoyed every minute that I've played and will always be passion- ate about the game," Getz told MLB- DailyDish.com. "I'm starting a family, and I'm interested in other endeavors both inside and outside of the game." After signing a minor league deal with the Jays during the offseason, Getz joined Buffalo and notched nine RBI in eighteen games before his pro- motion. He managed four hits in To- ronto — three singles and a double — and scored a run, all in two games at Kansas City April 30 and May 1. Getz batted .250 with three home runs and 111 RBI in 459 games dur- ing his seven major league seasons with the White Sox (2008-09), Royals (2010-13) and Blue Jays (2014). He was the Royals' starting second baseman for most of the 2011 season, and also saw time at third base and shortstop during his career.
