The UVa Compliance Office hopes you are enjoying the start of summer. As I write, our football and basketball teams are busy preparing for the 2014-15 season. For the first time this summer, a new NCAA rule allows our football coach- ing staff to work with the football student-athletes for a total of eight hours during summer sessions II and III. Of those eight, two hours per week may be spent watching film while six hours per week will involve working on strength and conditioning. For the past two summers, our men's basketball program has engaged in summer activities, while the women's basketball program participated for the first time last summer. Similar to football, both basketball coaching staffs will be able to work with their respective student- athletes for a total of eight hours during summer sessions II and III. Like football, six hours per week will involve working on strength and conditioning. However, in basketball, the coaches can actually practice the student-athletes for two hours per week. As our coaches and student-athletes prepare for the upcoming academic and sports year, we hope that you are planning to be there to cheer them on this fall. Go 'Hoos!
