Suffield Academy * As of June 1 looking to show Nittany Lion fans that he's just getting started. And it appears that he has the ability to do just that. "He's a freakishly talented athlete," said Roman Morris, father of former Penn State cornerback Stephon Morris and co-founder of Prime Example, a defensive back training academy in the Washington area. "The kid can jump very high. The kid is very explo- sive, very quick and very, very fast. We al- ways joke that he's a low-4.4 40-yard kid right when he wakes up. When he comes out and works at everything, the sky's the limit for what he can accomplish. "He has very good ball skills, 5uid hips, no wasted movement when he makes those transitions," Morris added. "He goes from zero to 60 faster than most guys. He can do it, too, in a compacted area or when he's playing in space, so he really 4ts all the physical traits a coach wants to see in his defensive backs. Physically, he stacks up with some of the best players I've been around." As for Barajas, his decision to back out of his commitment means that Penn State will most likely look for an additional strong-side linebacker prospect. Darrin Kirkland of Indianapolis had been the Nit- tany Lions' next target at the position, but the sta6 stopped recruiting him fol- lowing Barajas' commitment. He later gave a verbal commitment to Michigan. At the weak-side linebacker position, Brent Pry is still actively pursuing both Jerome Baker of Cleveland and Manny Bowen of Barnegat, N.J. Bowen has said the Nittany Lions are his leader, but he's expected to visit a few schools this summer before making a decision. One player to watch in the immediate future is o6ensive lineman Grant New- some. The four-star prospect from Lawrenceville, N.J., was expected to visit Penn State June 4-5, and a7er that he was planning a trip to Michigan. It's likely that Newsome will make his decision in the next few weeks. Otherwise, the early summer will likely be a quiet time on the recruiting scene, as Penn State will be shi7ing its focus to the Class of 2016 prospects who are expected to attend the sta6's 4ve Elite Camps in June and July. ■
