younger Hancock won three Class 6A state titles at Edmond Memorial High and was a consensus high school All-Ameri- can. All the while, that overpowering serve kept getting better. Sometimes, when her toss wasn't quite right, she would adjust her form to compensate, and the ball would spin wickedly as it zoomed across the net. It was an accidental discovery, but the spin gave opponents ;ts, so she began doing it intentionally. "I was just going with the eld ob- served a?er the match, "We had no o=ense when she was serving." Hancock began to develop her serve while growing up in Edmond, Okla. Her older sister, Kelsey, was a talented vol- leyball player who had been blessed with what Micha called "a heavy arm." From the start, Micha tried to emulate her sister, who was three years older than she. Kelsey would go on to play for the University of Tulsa, and Micha nearly followed her there before retracting her verbal commitment following a coaching change. The ALYSON ACKMAN SWIMMING Ackman became the ;rst Penn State swimmer since 2008 to claim ;rst-team All-America honors when she ;nished ;?h in the 200 freestyle at NCAAs with a time of 1 minute, 43.81 seconds. (She was even faster in the prelims, setting a Big Ten record with a 1:43.59.) The sophomore from Montreal turned in three additional All-America ;nishes during the championship event. In her two seasons at Penn State, she has been recognized as an All-American six times. MADISON CYR LACROSSE The sophomore mid;elder from West- minster, Md., led Penn State with 41 goals and tied for the team lead in total points with 48. Cyr was named a third- team All-American and was a ;rst-team All-Conference honoree a?er ;nishing ;?h in the American Lacrosse Confer- ence in goals and ninth in points. She teamed with older sister Mackenzie Cyr to help the Nittany Lions advance to the NCAA tournament for the third consec- utive season. MAYA HAYES SOCCER Hayes wrapped up a brilliant career by scoring a team-best 19 goals and adding six assists. In the process, she moved into third place on Penn State's career scoring list with 71 goals and 21 assists for 163 points. For the third season in a row, she won All-America notice, as well as ;rst-team All-Big Ten recognition. In January, she was chosen sixth overall in the National Women's Soccer League dra?, becoming Penn State's second- highest pick ever. Hayes is suiting up this summer for Sky Blue FC, which is based in her home state of New Jersey.
