Losing junior forward Tori Waldner well before the first media timeout was not part of the plan. But after Waldner picked up her second foul with 17 minutes, 29 seconds to play, the Lady Lions put freshman Kaliyah Mitchell into the game, and suddenly everything began going their way. In her first 30 seconds of action, Mitchell came up with a steal, scored a layup and pulled down a re- bound. She went on to play 25 minutes for the Lady Lions, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists, and Penn State thrashed the Gators, 83-61. "Kaliyah brought a lot of energy from the moment she stepped on the floor," coach Coquese Washington said. "With our bench, with our fresh- men, it's sometimes like they take turns." They did indeed, all season long.
