204 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2014 FOOTBALL PREVIEW Phil Seymour (Lettered 1967-68, 1970) Former defensive end Phil Seymour is one of the few Michigan players to have ever won first-team All-Big Ten honors in two seasons (1968 and 1970), while also becom- ing an Academic All-American (1970). Seymour, a Berkley, Mich., native, passed away June 5, 2013, leaving behind his wife, Julie Ann (41 years), and children Ann Sey- mour, Maureen Nelson and Patrick Seymour. Mr. Seymour finished his career with 150 tackles. He went on to graduate from the University of Maryland Law School and was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1974. In 1977, he was admitted to the U.S. Dis- trict Court for the Eastern District of Michi- gan. He joined the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1988 and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan in 1990. He was also assistant prosecuting attorney in Oakland County (1974-77); assistant prosecuting attorney for the city of Novi; former assistant city attor- ney for the city of South Lyon; assistant city attorney for the city of Hazel Park; assistant city attorney for the city of Lathrup Village; and on several boards, including the Board of Trustees M-Club (1997-2003). Mr. Seymour practiced law in southeast Michigan for a number of years. Don Lund (Lettered 1942-44) A true gentleman and a Michigan legend — that's how anyone who knew him would describe three-sport standout Don Lund. Mr. Lund earned nine varsity letters in three sports (baseball, basketball and football), had his baseball number retired, played in the major leagues, coached the 1962 baseball Wolverines to a national title and played for the Detroit Tigers. He also happened to be an outstanding football player under head coach Fritz Crisler, turning down an NFL contract as the Chicago Bears' first-round pick in 1945 to sign a minor league deal with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Mr. Lund passed away Dec. 10, 2013, at the age of 90. A fixture in the press box for Michigan football games until his death, Lund also left his mark as a U-M associate athletics director (1970-92) following an eight-year administrative career with the Detroit Tigers, the franchise with whom he spent seven sea- sons as a player. "When I attended the University of Michi- gan as a student-athlete, Mr. Lund was back at Michigan, and for five decades I had the pleasure of knowing one of the most mag- nanimous men I have ever met," Michigan athletics director David Brandon said after Lund's death. Lund was inducted into the U-M Hall of Honor in 1984 and the state of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1987. Jim Armour (Lettered 1973-74) Jim Armour isn't one of Michigan foot- ball's household names, but the offensive guard was a fierce competitor who made his teams better. He started five games for the 1974 Big Ten co-champions that finished No. 3 in the nation and would have played in the Rose Bowl if Big Ten athletic directors hadn't robbed them of the opportunity. They voted to send Ohio State instead after the two teams tied 10-10. Mr. Armour passed away Sept. 16, 2013, at the age of 61. Armour, a Detroit native, graduated from Northwestern High School in 1970 and from U-M in 1975. He never lost his blue blood — he reportedly remained a diehard fan who loved to entertain his friends and family at the Michigan home game tailgates. He worked for the City of Detroit Parks and Recreation Department as a supervisor and retired in 2009 after 34 years, after which he continued serving the community as a tutor with Starfish Family Services, working with young people from elementary through high school age. He is survived by his wife, Joanne, who shared with him his passion for Michigan football.
