That's where I always needed to be. That was a big thing in my recruiting process – (nding somewhere that was home to me. I've been home at Barnegat my whole entire life. At Southern, it wasn't the greatest experience for me. At Central, it wasn't all that great, but coming back to Barnegat and being able to get every- thing done with my grades and my team in football season – it was just a matter of being home and comfortable and being around the people I needed to be around. That's what I realized about Penn State. So how did that impact your recruit- ment? Were you being recruited when you were transferring between those schools? No. I never even thought I would have any Division I o)ers even a*er this year. I never spoke to a college coach until this year. The (rst college coach I spoke to was Charlie Weis [from Kansas], and that was actually my (rst o)er, so I'll always remember that one. So when did Penn State come into the picture? A*er a playo) game [in November]. I went up there with my quarterback, and this was when Bill O'Brien and his sta) were still on board. We watched them play a game vs. Purdue, and it was amazing because we were sitting in the recruit sec- tion. One thing I said when I le* was, "It was crazy." I didn't even know the people sitting around us, but they were all just talking to us like we knew them forever. We were having a good time at the football game. They were scoring touchdowns. Everybody was happy. The family atmos- phere [impacted] me right there, the mo- ment I was there for the (rst time. The second time I went there with my family is when I got my o)er. That was a great thing. They really sold family to me there. That's when my recruiting process started with [the new sta)] and the com- mits and everybody. Everybody worked to keep me on deck. That really showed that they cared about me and that they were going to do everything in their power to make me the best player I could be and the best student I could be, so that was a great feeling. ■ CLASS OF 2015 COMMITMENTS* NAME POS HT WT HOME SCHOOL Saquon Barkley RB 5-11 190 Whitehall, Pa.
