It's not often that you find many re-
cruits in the Washington, D.C., area that
grew up as Notre Dame fans, but that's
the case with Bishop McNamara three-
star cornerback Ashton White.
The 5-11, 182-pound prospect ful-
filled a dream that he's had for nearly
10 years when he committed to play
football at Notre Dame on July 1. White
chose the Irish over offers from Ohio
State, Virginia, Maryland, Boston Col-
lege and others.
"It's Notre Dame. It doesn't get bet-
ter than that," White said. "They will
contend for a national championship
just about every year, and you can get
the best degree in the country. It will
set you up in life, with work, and just
puts you in a better position than a lot
of other people.
"It's just an incredible opportunity
for football and academics. You're dou-
ble dipping. It's perfect. It's the best
place I could possibly be.
"I attend a school that preaches
strong academics. I have a 3.8 GPA.
I come from a Catholic school that is
under the umbrella of Holy Cross. As
far as being a well rounded person, as
far as academics, as far as community
service and as far as giving back, that's
