Emma Reaney, Swimming — Reaney won an individual national championship this year while carving out a bigger piece of history in her sport. The junior set an American record in the 200-yard breast- stroke at the ACC Championships. She later broke her record while winning the na- tional title in Minnesota. She also posted All-America times in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. 2t. Jewell Loyd & Kayla McBride, Bas- ketball — The sophomore guard Loyd hit 51.7 percent of her shots en route to lead- ing the national runner-up Irish with 18.7 points per game. Her athleticism made her a finalist for the Wooden Award, honoring women's college basketball's best player, and a second-team Associated Press All- American. This June, she won a gold medal at the 3x3 World Championships while leading the U.S. in scoring. McBride, the WNBA's No. 3 overall pick and one of the nation's most versatile players, was named Notre Dame's team MVP after helping to lead the Irish to their fourth straight Final Four. McBride started all 38 games of the 2013-14 season and finished second on the team with a scoring average of 17.6 points per game. 4. Lee Kiefer, Fencing — Notre Dame's third and final individual national champ is also a repeat winner. Kiefer, a sophomore, defended her crown in the women's foil event. She also won her fifth straight Pan American Championship in June, which ties a record for that event set by former Irish star Mariel Zagunis. 5. Margaret Smith, Lacrosse — The Irish captain was named the Co-National Defender of the Year by Inside Lacrosse along with Maryland's Megan Douty. She led the ACC in groundballs (64) and caused turnovers (43). She set a program career record by causing 122 turnovers during her four years at Notre Dame. — Dan Murphy Junior Emma Reaney set American records twice in the 200-yard breaststroke and won an individual NCAA title in the event.
